Are Arrow season 7, The Flash season 5 renewals official?

Are we getting an Arrow season 7 or a The Flash season 5 renewal news today? As exciting as that would be, it unfortunately seems as though you’re going to be waiting for a little while still.

The talk about the two CW series getting renewed stems from a recent tweet reporting that both shows have been quietly renewed for the additional seasons. While it would be nice to say that these renewals are indeed official, it feels like we should pump the brakes here. CarterMatt has found no corroborating evidence that the two seasons have received additional episodes, but in the end it’s almost a moot point: Both will be coming back.

The reason why there’s been so little speculation about having to wait longer for CW renewals this year than in the past is because all four of DC superhero shows are near locks to return. Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl all perform reasonably well on the schedule, and we would go ahead and throw Black Lightning on there, as well, even if it’s fairly early on in the series run. Our typical rule of thumb with The CW these days is that if your show averages a 0.5 rating or higher in the 18-49 demographic, you are almost certainly coming back. All four shows we’ve just mentioned achieve that.

The better question to start wondering about when it comes to some of these shows is some of their future long-term beyond this season. Arrow is the longest-tenured series and the longer it lasts, the more in turn you have to wonder if the end is near. There are no real overtures about that at the moment, but it’s not fair to expect any show to last as long as Supernatural is and the Arrow ratings have gone down over the past few years.

If there is a series we’re a probably more worried about than the others in the next couple of years, it’s Legends of Tomorrow just because it’s always the one to get thrown around the schedule and stuck into weird timeslots. That’s rarely ever a good sign for a series long-term future, even if we ironically think that it’s the best show in the entire Arrow-verse at the moment on the basis of fun alone.
