Chicago PD season 5 episode 15 spoilers: Case of Burgess’ sister resurfaces

Chicago PD season 5 episode 2

You may have known already that Chicago PD season 5 episode 15 carried with it the title of “Sisterhood.” What you may not have known before now was more in terms of how Burgess would be involved. This installment is a story largely about confronting vigilantism, while at the same time also confronting questions as to what defines justice. This is a question that has floated around in the internet as of late in the wake of the Larry Nassar sentencing, and it is also going to rear its head in an enormous way during this episode, as well.

The Chicago PD season 5 episode 15 synopsis does a good job explaining why:

02/28/2018 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : Intelligence tracks down a vigilante killing rapists. The investigation hits home for Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who begins to question if the men who attacked her sister truly paid for their actions.

It makes a high degree of sense as to why Burgess would be thinking in the way in which she is. A group of men did something horrendous and unspeakable to her sister on this past season of the show and while she worked to ensure that justice was served, as that enough? Is there every really a way for things to be enough? We do think that the justice system is in some ways broken when it comes to sentences for rapists and sexual abusers — there are cases in which they receive similar penalties to non-violent drug offenders. These are people taking a piece of someone’s soul and they should be punished more harshly and more accordingly.

Yet, being a vigilante isn’t quite the answer. As angry as Kim may be over what transpired to her sister, we certainly hope that nothing transpires within this episode that puts her on the same level as Voight. That is not going to help her. Instead, it may only serve to cause her additional pain. There also needs to be a cognizance on her part that Denny Woods is still out there, spying over Intelligence like a hawk and waiting for the moment when one of them crosses the line. If Burgess is not careful, she could join Voight high on the hit list.
