Poldark: Ross & Demelza named CarterMatt readers’ favorite show ‘ship

Mrs. Carter: When it comes to Poldark ‘ships, the following bit of news should not come as much of a surprise.

Over the course of the past several days, we’ve seen CarterMatt readers do their part to name what they believe to be the greatest ‘ship tied to the series. We knew that they were the heartbeat of the series and the result of the voting proved this to very much be true. The lion’s share of the audience voted for these two at the top, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing their love story continue as we move a little bit further along into the series.

So why do viewers love Ross & Demelza as much as they do? For starters, we do think that a key component of that has to do with their overall relatability. These are characters who don’t strive for perfection or present themselves as the ideal couple; they just do what they can in order to care for each other and show that they are capable of moving forward and finding happiness in their own way. They also have went through many struggles already, and they have many others that they will tackle coming up for the remainder of the series. Hugh Armitage, at the moment, is fairly high up the list.

When things are going great for Ross & Demelza, we know that few other romances on television match their passion or their spirit. We feel like this is one of the biggest reasons why there are so many people out there who root for them — you’ve got this element of idealistic romance balanced out with realistic drama. These two characters bring you both, and they are anchored by the fantastic Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson. The two work together incredibly well and have no problem taking their characters into dark places when they need to.
