Scandal season 7 episode 11 video: Mellie talks Olivia’s firing

Scandal season 7 episode 11

Scandal season 7 episode 11 is coming on Thursday night, and we’ve got a feeling that Olivia’s firing is going to be at the center of almost everything.

Let’s start things off here by reflecting on how we got to this point — at the end of this past episode, Mellie decided to make a big play after she realized the full extent of Olivia’s double-dealing. She is basically done with Olivia playing all sides and thinking more in terms of her own self-interest. Olivia has relished some of the power that she’s had as Chief of Staff — she knows that he doesn’t necessarily need the title of President to feel powerful and as a result of that, this is not something that she really concerns herself with all that much.

Now that we’ve said that, though, it’s also clear that Mellie wants power and she seems dismissing her as, more or less, her telling Olivia to kiss the ring. That’s not going to happen. The biggest difference between these two characters is mostly that Mellie cares deeply about public perception and what others think of her. A part of that is a requirement that comes with being the President. She knows that she is in control and can have people around her do whatever she chooses. Olivia has defied her before, but without a title it’s going to be harder for her to be able to do that.

If there is one other facet of this whole situation that makes things difficult for Olivia, it’s very much the fact that Jake could end up being her replacement. It’s one thing if Mellie opted for some political insider; it’s another altogether that it would be Scott Foley’s character taking her place. (Does anyone think at times that Scandal is a little too much of a revolving door, with the majority of the same characters jumping back and forth between the same positions? That is how it feels at the moment.)
