With all of the contestants who are appearing on Big Brother: Celebrity Edition who have virtually no idea what the show is all about, Ross Mathews is actually entering it with some sort of relative insight. He is a fan of the show, and we also think that he has arguably the most important skill of all entering the house: Social game. It’s for that reason that he’s probably our pre-show favorite to win at the end of the season.
Let’s put it this way — while Ross is certainly a big personality in his own right, he’s spent a good part of his career sharing the stage with other people, either as a host or an interviewer. He is okay with letting other people have some of the spotlight, and we think that is especially critical in a season like this where there are so many other people who have big egos. He’ll let them take center stage and them stab them in the back later if need be.
Also, one of the best things about Ross is that on paper, he’ll probably just come across as this nice, amicable guy who wants to be a part of this great / crazy experience. He won’t present himself as a threat. He’ll find a way to make three or four people go before him before he starts to show some of his cards. We don’t think the people who really go into the house with a competitive attitude and a lot of skill on paper are typically the winners. We’d say that of the past few seasons of Big Brother proper, Nicole is really the only player who was perceived from the start of the game as a strategic threat. While we knew that Derrick was trouble, the majority of the people on his season were oblivious to it most of the time.
What we’re most interested in – Seeing him share red-carpet stories in the house. Ross has been around so many celebrities that if there was going to be a good storyteller on celebrity culture, it’s going to be him.
