NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 14 review: The assassination plot — where is Percy?
Where was she? The character needed a little bit of personal time, but having her so MIA in this story was disappointing knowing that we were only going to have Shalita Grant for a limited amount of time the rest of the season. (If you missed the news, Grant is poised to leave the show in a matter of weeks.)
Let’s get now to the story that was at the heart of the episode, given that Mayor Taylor found herself targeted in the midst of a terrorist operation. She has only been in charge a limited period of time, and right in the middle of her campaign she found herself being repeatedly attacked.
To go along with that, the Mayor found herself in a position where her politics were questioned — yet, she refused to denounce refugees just so that she could get some political gain. She didn’t want to denounce the many for the actions of the few. That was risky, but just about everything in this case was risky as Loretta and the Mayor both got personally invested in this case as they tried to bring the responsible parties to justice.

Ultimately, it was not a gunfight that ended up resolving this episode. It was emotion, and it the end result of this story was not actually about terrorism at all. It was instead about a powerful man desperate to commit election fraud in order to help his candidate get elected and destroy Taylor’s chances. That didn’t happen. The true nature of his operation was sickening — he wanted to set up people as terrorists and use that to drive the city against some of Taylor’s political beliefs.
CarterMatt Verdict
This was a tear-jerker that touched on perceptions about terrorism, but also humanity and the struggles that refugees go through. It’s what happens when the actions of the few in turn end up impacting the many.
Even if we did miss Percy a lot tonight, we’ll still say that this: At least the show compensated for that by giving us one of its most thought-provoking installments of the entire year. It was topical and bold — we’re sure that not everyone out there will like that the show took so much of a stance, but we personally appreciate it when NCIS: New Orleans stands out more in a crowd. It makes it a little bit more memorable when you are running 24 episodes of a show within a given year.
