TV Revivals: Could a Girl Meets World season 4 ever happen?

In today’s edition of our ongoing TV Revivals series, we’re putting the onus on a possible Girl Meets World season 4 … including whether or not it could ever happen.

Before we saw too much else, though, let’s focus on what got us to this point: Girl Meets World was canceled at the end of season 3, and it seems that the reasoning for it was Disney Channel not being altogether excited with the show’s performance. It did have a nice little run, and there was hope upon its cancellation that Netflix, Freeform, or someone else would pick it up. That didn’t happen.

Is there a chance of it happening now? We wish that we could say that something has changed, but it hasn’t — the cast has moved on to other things, and while we think it would have been nice to have another year or two of the show, this is going to be a difficult gang to bring back together again. The cast is getting older, and given that this is a show anchored by a young cast, that makes it infinitely more difficult to figure out a way for the series to continue.

If there is any glimmer of hope for Girl Meets World to continue, it’s this — hoping that Freeform does manage to bring the show back down the road with an older Riley and Maya, which would in turn allow the series to touch on some more mature issues relevant to people today. We know that the cast in real life is invested in trying to make the world a better place; why not make a new edition of the show a reflection of some of what they are going through?

One other reason to consider a Girl Meets World revival is that over the past year, it seems as though viewers have grown even MORE nostalgic. Think about NBC reviving Will & Grace, CBS bringing back Murphy Brown, and there being talks about various reboots out there. The only thing that we feel like the show needs is a network that could appeal more to fans of the original show — Girl Meets World did a great job of appealing to the new generation, but we think that there were plenty of classic Boy Meets World viewers scared off by it being on Disney Channel.
