The Resident episode 5 return date for Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp
After tonight’s episode, the Matt Czuchry – Emily VanCamp medical drama is going off of the air for the next few weeks in order to accommodate for the upcoming Winter Olympics — they are not airing on the same network, but clearly Fox doesn’t want to air programming against them. Why run the risk of not getting the ratings that you would otherwise? They are making the right move and are steering clear of much of the heavy competition that is coming up.
The Resident episode 5 return date is (at present) Monday, February 26 — just three weeks from tonight! That seems on paper like a long time, but that really just means two weeks of repeats in between. That’s not all that bad. The only point of concern for a show like this is the mere fact that really, it has not been on the air all that long. There have only been three full weeks of programming — remember here that the first episode aired on a Sunday following the NFC Championship Game. We’re not really getting a whole lot of time to watch the story build up before the show goes away, and we really hope that there is going to be a large contingent of viewers that stick with the show and don’t forget about it.
While we do think that The Resident isn’t in any danger of cancellation just yet, it does need to stabilize its numbers soon after some drops and show that it has some significant staying power. What we like is that as the series is progressing we’re seeing the storytelling gradually improve — there are a ton of medical dramas out there, but we would say that this is probably the edgiest in terms of what the doctors and nurses are willing to do. In other words, this is probably the show where the doctors are the most likely to get fired, told off or sued.
