Super Bowl LII: Pink performs National Anthem despite flu

Super Bowl LII

Pink was set to perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl LII today and, as of a week or two ago, it seemed as though she had this in the bank. Then, the unexpected happened as she found herself getting the flu. Suffice it to say, this was a setback. We’ve heard in a number of different reports how Pink was suffering from the flu entering the game and we figured that this could have an impact on her ability to perform.

As a matter of fact,we had our fears that she was not even going to be able to perform overall. She even said beforehand that she was concerned about it. We will say this — this is the first time throughout this NFL season that the National Anthem had some controversy when it comes to the anthem itself.

Ultimately, though, Pink delivered and decided to go through with the National Anthem performance. Ultimately, what we ended up seeing in the end here was an excellent take on “The Star-Spangled Banner” complete with big notes, meaning behind the words, and all sorts of passion. You would never know for a split second that this was Pink performing sick — she didn’t show any sign of it at all and we imagine that she was on the inside.

If we were to draw a parallel between this performance and sports, we would say that what Pink did here was the equivalent of a player coming out sick and running for the game-winning touchdown. She’s a pro, and knew what her job was and she had to figure out a way to do it. Luckily, she did and we certainly know that we appreciated it watching it at home. By far, this was one of the best National Anthem performances we’ve seen the past few years, and we didn’t see any kneeling for those curious.

Take a look at the performance from Pink below.
