Super Bowl commercials 2018: Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Chloe Kim, more in Olympics spot
While it’s fairly common that we see the network broadcasting the Super Bowl implement some of their own commercials into the mix, what the Olympics are doing here with their ad is a little bit different. You’ve got the likes of Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Chloe Kim, and Mikaela Shiffrin each featured in separate ads that tell a little bit of their story and emphasize the sort of determination that they’ve got in order to win the gold.
The premise – You get glimpses into these athletes’ past, their present, and ultimately their goals of trying to win the gold. This is not a commercial that is really pushing to do anything other than just emphasize the achievements of some of these competitors.
Brand recognition – There’s obviously sporting highlights all over the place in these commercials. The Olympics couldn’t be more prominent if someone tried.

Creativity – We like the fact that you get a little bit of each person’s life in these previews, though it actually would have been nice to hear their voices and see their personality. Some of these stories could have actually been told to us by the commentators during the Games themselves.
Our overall grade – B. We do really like the idea of giving us a chance to get to know all of these athletes individually, even though White and Vonn are already for the most part household names. They are good spots for the Olympics, but we do think this would have been a great opportunity to actually get to hear some of these Olympians explain more of what the games mean to them.
