Vikings season 5: What could Rollo – Lagertha reunion look like
Based on where we are right now, there are some signs suggesting that one could be coming up in the second half of season 5. For starters, just remember the way in which the first half of season 5 ended — with Rollo sailing towards an unknown destination (which we feel is probably Katttegat since he knows Ivar is using his army to over throw Lagertha).
When you think about these two characters they have always had sort of a natural connection, so there limitless possibilities when it comes to how this plays out — and both have changed a lot over the years (although Rollo still seems to do what he wants even if it pisses everyone off – gotta love him!). If you are a writer or producer on this show, you want to pair him up with another interesting character who has been an enormous part of his life so far and this is the reunion we’ve been dying to see.
So why now? Obviously, their personal history is something that is worth exploring deeper because of the feelings that were once present and also where the two are now at this particular point in life. Lagertha is a leader who is currently soul-searching; a part of her expected to die in the most-recent battle, and she did end up having to kill Astrid she considered to be a great love. There is an emptiness that could come as a result of it; we don’t anticipate Rollo being there to fill that void, but we do wonder if there is a comfort and nostalgia that would come from the two spending time together since Ragnar was another great love of her life. They could help each other, reminisce, and also look at where they are in their lives now. Oh, and there’s also the military-strategy component to it all since once Rollo sees what’s happening he may switch sides… he’s been known to do that in the past.
There’s also another question here as to how Bjorn could be involved in whatever meetings Rollo and Lagertha could have. While it’s been said — and even recorded in history — that Bjorn is the son of Lagertha and Ragnar, there are certainly plenty of reasons out there to believe that this is not necessarily the case. It’s definitely a possibility that Bjorn is Lagertha and Rollo’s son; if that turns out to be true, we wonder if this could be a time to explore that. It would add another layer of significance to his journey and flesh out every character. It would also help to make it clear why Rollo cares as much for Bjorn as he does and told Ivar not to kill Bjorn specifically even though Ubbe is also on Lagertha’s side and is also his nephew.
Given that Clive Standen may only be available for a short period of time, that there should be an expectation that Rollo’s journey have a quick payoff. By giving Standen screen time with Katheryn Winnick and showing off the intricacies of where they are and where they’ve come from, the stage could be set for a very satisfying storyline.
