This Is Us Super Bowl commercial doubles as genius Crock-Pot ad
In the video below, you can see Milo Ventimiglia discussing some of the things that bring us together in what is a pretty divided time for the country. Format-wise, it’s a little bit jarring since we don’t think that Milo is necessarily playing Jack — even though he’s dressed like him. Also, the music in the background suggests that we’re in the middle of a This Is Us episode, even though at the very end of it you see what is a very modern Crock-Pot.
The humor here comes in the closing seconds with the Crock-Pot logo coming up alongside the hashtag #CrockPotIsInnocent. We don’t necessarily think that this ad was planned out for a long time, given that Crock-Pot seemed rather perturbed when they learned that a faulty slow cooker (it wasn’t actually labeled as a Crock-Pot) seemed to be one of the reasons that the Pearson family home caught on fire at the end of this past episode. As a matter of fact, Crock-Pot actually said in a statement (one mocked in part on The Late Show) that they hoped This Is Us would do something in the future to show that slow-cookers are one of the safest ways to cook in the future.
Somehow, it seems as though their wish has been granted — sort of. Basically, this commercial shows that Jack can forgive Crock-Pots; with that, so should everyone else! Our biggest takeaway of all here is that after watching this, we’re suddenly really craving homemade chili and want to make some now for Super Bowl Sunday.
This Is Us will officially premiere their post-Super Bowl episode at the conclusion of the big game. NBC is specifying right now that it could start around 10:15 p.m. Eastern time but all of that is, at least for now, relatively subject to change.
