House of Cards: Diane Lane, Greg Kinnear join final season

Netflix’s House of Cards has added Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear to its final season.

According to the New York Times, following Netflix’s decision to continue the series without Kevin Spacey and center on Robin Wright’s character, they have decided to introduce some new characters. The series was in a 3-month hiatus, but resumed production this past Tuesday.

Unfortunately, we do not have any specific details on Lane and Kinnear’s characters, but we do know they will play brother and sister. The fun part about this news is the possibilities are endless for who the brother and sister could be. They could be friends of Claire Underwood or fellow politicians. Basically, Netflix is going to have some great stories that they can tell.

Diane Lane is known for her role as Martha Kent in the DC Superman/Justice League movies and recently guest starred on Amazon’s anthology series The Romanoffs. She is also known for her Oscar nominated role in Unfaithful.

Greg Kinnear is known for his roles in Little Miss Sunshine, Invincible, and Modern Family. He is also known for his Oscar nominated role in As Good As It Gets.

In addition to Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Wright, Lane and Kinnear will join House of Cards cast members Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver.

The whole shake up started off allegations of sexual misconduct were brought against Spacey. Following these allegations, Netflix decided to fire him and suspended production while they figured out a way to regroup the series. At first, the series was looking to start production post-Thanksgiving in order for the writers to make changes to the scripts, but ultimately a longer hiatus was agreed upon. In addition, Netflix never truly considered canceling the series because of the show’s history. House of Cards was the first original series and put Netflix onto the main stage. It was the first to make Netflix, a steaming service, a true contender among broadcast and cable channels after it landed major Emmy nominations.

Created by Beau Willimon based on the British miniseries, House of Cards is executive produced by Melissa James Gibson, Frank Pugliese, Robin Wright, David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Eric Roth, Michael Dobbs and Andrew Davies.
