Big Brother: Celebrity Edition spotlight: All about James Maslow of Big Time Rush

James Maslow of Big Time Rush is probably one of the Big Brother: Celebrity Edition cast members we’re the least familiar with on paper. That’s not meant as a slight; it’s more of a reminder that we’re old. Big Time Rush came after we were into Nickelodeon as a kid; if this was Kel Mitchell (that’s more our time), we’d be jumping up and down.

What we know about Maslow is that he is an actor, musician, and performer with the group Big Time Rush. He has a history in reality TV already; he was a part of Dancing with the Stars years ago and did very well on that show. We remember him there for being enthusiastic and high-energy, though Dancing with the Stars isn’t always a way in which to know a lot about someone outside of rehearsal packages.

Why would James do this show? It’s pretty clear in this case — he’s a young, social-media savvy guy who probably realizes that doing this show could be a left for him. He’s already got a devoted Legion of Big Time Rush fans but this could lead to more music or acting opportunities.

The thing we’re most excited about – With James, it comes back once more to his age and understanding of the internet. He probably will come into this season with a sense of self-awareness about the fact that he’s playing a game, one that maybe some other people won’t have. He’s an interesting candidate to win just because he’s athletic without being obnoxiously so, and he’s probably pretty social and isn’t going to make anyone angry. Given just how much of this season is full of strong personalities, it’s pretty darn likely that the winner is going to be someone who weathers the storm. James could easily be that person.

If there is one thing that could cause things to go south with James in this game, it’s most likely this: That he gets a little bit of power early in the game and he allows it to get to his head. This is a case of a Big Brother contestant who could benefit from starting out as an underdog, getting in a little danger early, and then finding a way to bounce back after that.
