Should NCIS season 16 bring back majority of cast?

We’re of course entering this article with a little bit of a presumption that NCIS will be renewed for a season 16 — mostly because it would be pretty darn shocking if that is not the case. The CBS crime procedural routinely is one of one of the most-popular series both in America and around the world!

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, we’ve assessed the contract situation for a few different actors — we know that Pauley Perrette is leaving, but beyond that the contracts are up for Mark Harmon, Sean Murray, and David McCallum. We’d like to see them all back in some capacity, but what about the rest? Maria Bello has a three-year deal and that should ensure her return (if she’s digging the role), and the status of some of the other supporting characters is not entirely clear.

Should NCIS bring back the remainder of the ensemble? We’d argue so, mostly because we’re finally starting to get a group that has some chemistry together and is somewhat unified again. This is a series that is reliant almost entirely on getting a consistent batch of performers on board. You need to give viewers the opportunity to see the same people week in and week out; otherwise, they start to either get confused or feel disenfranchised that they are not seeing familiar faces. This is one of the reasons why the departures of Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly were so painful — viewers loved the characters and the actors who played them. They grew used to seeing their faces every single week.

There are fans at this point of just about every NCIS character in the ensemble — some are more popular than others, but they all help to keep the group cohesive. For example, there are people now rooting for Bishop and Torres romantically, and we always appreciate when Clayton Reeves has a big episode. If we were to lose any of them, we’d have to start from the ground up and we don’t want any of that. This also remains the case for Jimmy Palmer — with Abby’s departure and Ducky’s reduced role, he’s really the only consistent character we may have entering season 16 who operates on cases behind the scenes.
