The Resident episode 4 preview: When a death isn’t death at all

The Resident episode 4 is airing on Fox in one week’s time, and we should note that we’re already gearing up for a hiatus. Because of the Winter Olympics the Fox series is going to be taking a break for much of February, but there will be an episode on February 5 before the series is off the air for a couple of weeks after the fact.

We’ll have a little more information to discuss when it comes to the future of The Resident down the line, so we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves discussing some of that right now. Instead, let’s just share some official news now on The Resident episode 4, which carries with it the title of “Identity Crisis”:

After a mix-up in the ER causes Conrad to deliver a death notification to the wrong family, he sets out to fix it. Meanwhile, Nic struggles to find a patient’s records who has been under Lane’s care, Devon forms a bond with an elderly patient and Mina is benched after overreaching in the surgical unit.

We feel for Conrad in this situation, and that’s saying something given that Conrad as a character isn’t someone who has done a lot to garner our sympathy over time. Instead, more often than not he’s been arrogant and a little roguish in his attempts to define what it means to be a doctor. While we do agree with some of what he’s pulled off in three episodes for the sake of saving lives, the inner idealist in us wants to think that there has to be a better way of going about things than the route that he has chosen. He makes his life far more difficult on himself than it has to be — maybe it’s because he cares, or maybe he wants to routinely challenge himself.

One way or another, The Resident episode 4 is a pretty essential hour to the story. Over the course of this, you should get a good opportunity to understand more of who Conrad is, and also how many viewers are hooked on his story. The Resident needs to stabilize some of its numbers if it wants to have a good chance of coming back for another season.
