Station 19 official title for Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off
The Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off officially has a title, and we’re not entirely sure what they were going for with Station 19.
On paper, we understand that it’s a pretty literal title describing what the show is 100% about. After all, Station 19 is the name of the firehouse in which some of these characters work out of. Yet, at the same time that doesn’t mean that this title is a good one. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty questionable at best. If you were to just see the name Station 19 in a TV guide somewhere, you wouldn’t know what it was a reference to. Is this a TV station? A typo? It’s hard to say. It would have been nice to get some sort of a reference to an actual fire. In the event that we weren’t going to get that, we’re equally surprised that the show didn’t go with something more related to Grey’s Anatomy in the title.
As ridiculous as it may seem, CarterMatt would’ve prefer that ABC just called it Grey’s Anatomy: Fire Station and called it a day. It would at least help viewers know that this is connected. Maybe the fear in doing that was that you wouldn’t attract anyone outside of Grey’s Anatomy fans if the two shows had the same name. Still, even if you could just get 60-70% of the Grey’s Anatomy fanbase you really don’t need anyone else. It worked for Fear the Walking Dead – why can’t it work here too?
Qualms about the name aside, we do recognize that what actually matters with this show more so than anything else is whether or not anyone enjoys the content. If the story is smart, interesting, and well-told it can be named almost anything and viewers will flock to it. It has to just feel like a firefighter show with Grey’s Anatomy touches as opposed to another version of Chicago Fire. Given that we already have that show, it doesn’t many any sense for Station 19 to come out and do effectively the same exact thing that we’ve seen before.
