Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Jesse Williams directing big Jessica Capshaw episode
Williams recently confirmed on Twitter that he is directing his first-ever episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and Capshaw followed that up by saying that Arizona will be the focus for almost all of it. We do love these Grey’s Anatomy episodes that hone in the focus on just a small group of characters. We’ve had some recent ones in the prison storyline with Arizona, Bailey, and Jo, and we’d also consider the episode with Riggs and Megan earlier this season to be in a similar sort of vein. With so many episodes this season Grey’s Anatomy does allow itself opportunities to mix things up and tell these sort of stories, which we think is one of the reasons for its continued success. You come to care about these people and these episodes allow for more of that.
The timing does also feel right for an Arizona episode given that she is at such an interesting place in her life at the moment. She’s taking advantage of a chance to be a parent whenever she has Sofia around, and she also still has her own work as a doctor to focus on. She also manages to do all of this with part of her leg amputated, which is something that surprisingly has not been a huge part of the show for a rather long time.

Williams joins a long list of notable Grey’s Anatomy actors who also direct. Just this season alone we’ve had installments from Kevin McKidd, Chandra Wilson, and star/executive producer Debbie Allen. Meanwhile, Ellen Pompeo also has another episode coming up a little bit later this season.
