Will Britannia be renewed for season 2? It may be too early to tell
Earlier today, the Sky Atlantic series officially started to air overseas, and with that there are already a flurry of reviews coming in. The series stars everyone from Kelly Reilly to David Morrissey and it certainly has aspirations to be one of the next big epic dramas. Think along the lines of a Game of Thrones, even if that series is not exactly based in history. This show is premiering on Amazon in America on Friday, January 26, but the episodes are already available elsewhere. You may have to wait a little while in North America in order to see more of the story, but let’s be honest: It hasn’t been that long.
The second season of Britannia is not a sure thing just yet, and we do imagine that much of the show’s future is going to be largely dependent on what’s happening with the show’s international performance. If it manages to score a certain degree of success overseas and is streamed well all over the world, there could be plans to do something more with the property. We’ve already seen with Vikings that it is more than possible for a series to last for many years, telling stories that are based at least in part on history.
The reason we hope for more with this show is simply because of the fact that Brittania season 1 could just be a jumping-off point for so much more … though we won’t have a chance to see for a little while still.
When we do have more confirmation as to the future of the series, we will of course let you know.
