As of right now, NBC has set The Blacklist season 5 episode 12 return date for Wednesday, January 31 — there is no new episode airing next week, but following that you’ll have two more chapters of the series before the Olympics take over for much of the month of February. On the other side of the Games, the good news is that there will still be a solid nine additional episodes, and those will likely carry you through much of the remainder of the season.

01/31/2018 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : As Liz (Megan Boone) works with Red (James Spader) to hunt for Tom’s killers, she begins to question his motives. Meanwhile, the Task Force enlists the help of one arsonist to catch another.
What could Reddington want with these killers? It seems as though there is one potential answer that we can come up with: Information. He’s obviously aware enough that the suitcase is still out there and as a result of that, there is something that he needs to cover up. If there is someone who could possibly expose that, he’ll go after him. We can see the mystery opening up again somehow through this story. Reddington has to cover his tracks in the event he wants to preserve his relationship … or continue to make it whatever he chooses for it to be.
As for whether or not we foresee The Blacklist season 5 episode 12 being the one to reveal many of the series’ biggest secrets … well, wouldn’t that be a little bit too big of a surprise for an episode at the end of January? There’s no real incentive for the show to unveil the suitcase in this episode, but who knows? Maybe this is a part of some sort of elaborate Jedi mind trick on the part of the writers to throw us off the scent of what is coming down the road and give us all something to talk about while we wait for the show to return. We do think that with a show like this that there are always new mysteries that can be unlocked.
