Downton Abbey revival still possible, but no hurry for them
Is a Downton Abbey revival movie happening in the near future? We can’t say that, but signs definitely do point to this being something that continues to be in discussions.
For a little more evidence on this subject, just be sure to check out some of the latest thoughts via Phyllis Logan. The actress played Mrs. Hughes on the original series, and it definitely does seem as though there is a thirst for her to go back and do so again. Speaking (per TV Guide) while at the TCA Winter Press tour promoting the show, she had the following message to pass along:
“It’s not dead in the water by any means, but then I’m waiting for the call … There is a script floating around, but I think they’re waiting until it’s sort of finalized before any of us get a proper look at it… There’s an appetite for it with all the fans. There’s definitely an appetite for it. I think if it was approached and dealt with in the right way, it could be really good. I’d just love to get back together with all the old gang and have one last hurrah.”
We would assume that one of the biggest problems for a revival could just be working out schedules given that so many people are off doing different things. Michelle Dockery has Good Behavior, Lily James has done Cinderella and War & Peace, Hugh Bonneville remains very active, and we’re not even sure if Maggie Smith wants to come back after there was so much talk as to whether or not she would even want to do six seasons.
If a Downton Abbey revival ever happens, our feeling is that it won’t be until 2019 or even later — therefore, don’t write it out but don’t exactly cross your fingers for it coming in the near future, either. Once there is a little more news on the subject, we’ll certainly have some of these said updates here.
