NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 13 review: Hetty takes a bite out of crime

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 13 made it clear from the get-go that this was going to be an important hour of TV. After all, this was far and a way different from the vast majority of the other installments you’ve seen over time. “Cac Tu Nhan” from the get-go way about the search for Hetty, and Sam, Callen, and the remaining members of the team doing what they could in order to help out.

One of the things that made this episode so especially interesting was how finding out Hetty’s location was completely a team effort. In one way, Eric Beale kickstarted the search for Hetty with a dream. Meanwhile, from there Beale, Nell, and Hidoko were able to figure precisely where Hetty could be located based on some of the clues that they found.

Following this, Sam and Callen did their best in order to locate Hetty, but the trouble that they got themselves in along the way here was drawing the ire of one Shay Mosley. She did not like there being dissension in the ranks, with some of her agents focusing on something other than their typical missions. Eventually, though, Mosley showed herself to be on-board and helpful; she just wished that some of her team decided to trust her along the way. Her bedside manner may be terrible, but there is more to her than anyone would assume.

Eventually Sam, Callen, Deeks, and Kensi did start to get everything together, and the next episode will be the one where everyone takes off.

The one bummer about this episode is that going into it, CBS hyped up that we would see many team members make a trip overseas. That happened, but not until we got near the very end of the episode. We wanted to see the team spend a little more time there.

What’s happening with Hetty?

Over in Vietnam she found herself interrogated and tormented even more than she’s been since arriving; the more she fought, and the more danger she found herself in. At one point, a tiger was thrown in for good measure. The writers did a good job confronting Hetty with some danger, but we wouldn’t quite say that there were too many surprises in here … at least until the very end.

In the closing minutes of the episode we got another snippet of Hetty’s interrogation, and she decided that desperate times called for desperate measures in order to ensure that she fought back. Basically, the closing minutes of the episode featured her taking a good ol’ bite at the interrogator. For now, that’s it.

Final Verdict

We were certainly thrilled to spend a lot of time over in Vietnam taking on this story, especially since for most of the season we’ve been left waiting in the lurch for more details. Yet, we definitely still want more.
