Ratings Bubble Report: Does The Brave have a chance at a season 2?

Is there a chance at The Brave coming back for a second season on NBC? It’s certainly something that we know many people out there are interested in. The show’s developed a loyal following through the past several months; unfortunately, ratings ultimately doesn’t often translate to a network giving a green light for more episodes.

Should The Brave be renewed? From a fan standpoint, we know that there are many people out there who would like to see more of the show. Yet, we do think that this is a series that is very much on the bubble and whose renewal could come down to the wire.

Understanding the latest The Brave season 1 ratings

To date, The Brave is bringing in an average of 4.9 million viewers alongside a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is a show that is drawing numbers on the lower side for NBC — it ranks lower than the majority of their other drama series, save for the ones that air on Friday nights.

The bad news to know here is that The Brave completely tanked out Monday night without The Voice as a lead-in — the episode brought in just a 0.5 rating. Was there an extenuating circumstance? Sure, since the series aired against the NCAA title game and we imagine many fans of the military drama are also football fans.

Why The Brave could be renewed for season 2

In a word, potential. Obviously, NBC saw this from the moment that they ordered this series since otherwise, they would have never opted to bring it on the air in the first place. They banked on it hard after The Voice, and almost every single show to premiere after that series, at least those that started at the beginning of the fall, has received a second season. Sure, Timeless barely got one but it still did. Blindspot, The Blacklist, and even Taken are all still on the air. State of Affairs is the only real dud, and that kicked off a little later in the fall.

If The Brave could maintain that entire 1.0 rating for the second season, we could see it getting a renewal and being moved to Fridays.

Why The Brave could be canceled

Well, the most-recent ratings are a huge concern given that if the numbers continue for the show at this pace, there is a very good chance that we’re not going to see it stay around on the air any longer. It’s almost sure to be canceled if things don’t improve above a 0.5 next week. There’s just no other way around it.

Our verdict: The Brave is in trouble, and needs boost in viewers

When it comes to The Brave and most other TV shows, it is really all about what programs have done for networks lately as opposed to where they started. If NBC perceives The Brave as solely a show airing after The Voice, it’s almost sure to be in trouble. However, if the show can prove that this week was a fluke and it can close strong.

As of right now, though, we’re worried — now is the time, rather than at the end of the season, when fans need to rally for a season 2.
