Quantico season 3 premiere date official; series following up Grey’s Anatomy

For those of you out there still eagerly hoping to get Quantico back on the air, we’ve got some news that should make you smile. The unfortunate part of it is that you are going to be forced to wait a little while longer.

ABC has now officially confirmed that the Quantico season 3 premiere date is going to come your way on Thursday, April 26 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. It is premiering one week after the upcoming Scandal series finale and will air on a lineup featuring Grey’s Anatomy and the upcoming firefighter spin-off.

The decision to move Quantico season 3 to Thursday nights shouldn’t be viewed as all that much of a surprise for a number of different reasons. For starters, we are talking about a show that tonally feels somewhat similar to many Shonda Rhimes series that are a part of the #TGIT lineup — it also features a strong female lead and a wide array of different twists or turns. Because Quantico is not a Shondaland show, though, we’re not altogether sure that ABC will promote it using the all-familiar hashtag.

Quantico season 3 is being designed as a season of the show both familiar and yet new. While it will contain much of the same formula as the first two seasons and feature Priyanka Chopra and others once more, this is designed to be a streamlined version of the story. New showrunner Michael Seitzman of Code Black fame is stepping in after Josh Safran ran the first two seasons. There will be a different flair here, and we’re absolutely curious to learn whether or not this is the season that starts to feature some stable ratings. We do still contend that ABC really wants Quantico to work — it’s a smart, diverse show that has a lot of interesting things to say. The biggest thing that has been working against it is the fact that, for one reason or another, it just can’t get mainstream viewers to consistently find it. For at least part of the second season, it had a pretty decent lead-in on Monday nights in The Bachelor / Dancing with the Stars.
