Madam Secretary season 4 episode 12 preview: The President’s mental state under questioning
Madam Secretary season 4 episode 12, entitled “Sound and Fury,” is airing on CBS on Sunday, January 14. This was a story written long before there was any recent questioning about mental fitness in the actual Oval Office; as a result of that, don’t assume that this story is necessarily ripped from the headlines. By and large, Madam Secretary tends to be a fairly good about avoiding that.
The Madam Secretary season 4 episode 12 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below offers up some more details on what lies ahead:
“Sound and Fury” – After President Dalton hears about a sonic attack at the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria, he thinks Russia is to blame and uncharacteristically threatens them with military force, leaving his cabinet concerned about his mental status, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Jan. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Christine Ebersole guest stars as Lydia Dalton, the president’s wife.
This marks the second appearance from Ebersole on the show as Lydia; she last turned up all the way back in season 2. As for why the show is keeping most of her appearances at a minimum, that’s largely because this is a story that is more about Elizabeth than Dalton or anyone on his team.
Could President Dalton resign?
It’s certainly possible, though at the moment we’re thinking that it’s a little too early for that sort of action. You do have to wonder, though, if the Madam Secretary writers are starting to slide this show ever closer towards some sort of big story where Elizabeth McCord weighs her own political future. We’ve already seen questions surrounding this start to surface with some of her staff, just as there is also some political chess going on. Some of that is happening with the Vice-President on Sunday night’s season 4 episode 11. All of this suggests that a resignation could happen and throw the entire office into upheaval … though it’s also possible that these rumors of mental instability turn out to be a hill of beans and this is all meant to be a red herring for now.
