Ratings Bubble Report: Why we’re still awaiting a Good Behavior season 3 decision

Welcome back to our Ratings Bubble Report series! Throughout the month of January we will look more at some of our favorite shows and determine whether or not they could be coming back for an additional season.

Could Good Behavior be renewed for season 3? It could be. For now, the series remains on the bubble. As we’re going to explain below, this is a series very much at the mercy of its network in TNT.

Understanding the latest Good Behavior season 2 ratings

At the moment they’re certainly on the lower side for TNT, let alone for most basic cable scripted series in live+same-day numbers. Season 2 averaged in total close to a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and almost 600,000 viewers. While streaming / DVR numbers and certain demo ratings matter, the show was down more than 10% in both the 18-49 demographic and total viewers from season 1.

Why Good Behavior could be renewed for season 3

Just from a biased point of view Good Behavior is one of TNT’s best shows … at least out of the ones not currently canceled. (We’re still bitter over what happened to Major Crimes.) This is a really fun, smart-written series with a great cast led by Michelle Dockery. We love series that are in this sort of vein — fun, fast-paced, and know when to incorporate drama and serious character moments.

We know that we’ve mentioned this before, but Good Behavior feels almost like the heir apparent to another series we really loved in White Collar on USA. That show managed to survive for many more years. We’re not clamoring for that right now; yet, we do think a season 3 or 4 is feasible. The show does have support in terms of its live+7 ratings and social media; it feels like it has the potential to be a much bigger hit than it is.

Why Good Behavior could be canceled

At a certain point, a network may decide to move on and that their efforts to support a show are in vein. Good Behavior is one of TNT’s lowest-rated shows and despite everything we just wrote, there could be a sentiment from a marketing standpoint that they can put more money and time into other series with more immediate potential. If they feel as though the effort is not worth the profits in this instance, Good Behavior could be kicked to the curb.

Our verdict: Good Behavior should be renewed

Maybe season 3 could be its last, but it feels like this is a series worth one more kick at the can. TNT invested a lot in Good Behavior through two seasons so why stop it now? What we’d recommend is putting the show on a bit of a hiatus until you can launch it with another established hit. With the right lead-in and the right promotion, Good Behavior is a risk that will produce some rewards.

Do you think Good Behavior will be renewed for a season 3?
