Lucifer season 3 episode 11 review: The Lucifer Morningstar origin story

Lucifer -

When Lucifer season 3 episode 11 aired on Fox Monday night, it didn’t take all that much time for us to have one simple reaction to it: Laughter. This episode, entitled “City of Angels?” (question mark intentional), was the perfect little origin story for the show and many of our favorite characters.

There were so many reasons why this was fun, starting with seeing how it was Amenadiel losing his necklace that caused Lucifer Morningstar to stick around on Earth much longer than intended — not that he really minded all that much, given that this allowed a golden opportunity for him to be able to hook up with a number of women and have a crazy good time.

Most of the episode was about the search for the necklace, and having a little bit of fun just about every step of the way. We got to see Chloe deal with Amenadiel while she was working as a beat cop; meanwhile, we also saw Amenadiel almost get cast in an adult film (almost) while also being hired as a fighter — basically, he was the undercover agent in order to figure out who stole his necklace. Lucifer was only useful in throwing Amenadiel into these sort of situations … at least until he got into the ring.

Seeing Amenadiel have to throw a fight against Lucifer as a means of getting some extra money made for a heck of a sequence. These two found themselves bloodied and bruised, while also starting to feel as though they’d been on Earth far too long.

What Lucifer didn’t realize

While he and Amenadiel were looking to track down the necklace thief, Chloe and Dan were on the case, as well! This thief also ended up being a murderer, and they got a confession out of him … with a little bit of accidental help from the title character.

It was after the bad guy’s arrest that Lucifer dropped a big bomb on Amenadiel — he had no intention of leaving. He liked it there and had wasn’t going to say goodbye. Lucifer was warned that this was a dangerous move, but he in turn made it clear that he didn’t care. He was happy there, and somehow he managed to find a place for himself, ironically, in this city of angels. Maze did away with his wings and he was ready to go.

CarterMatt Verdict

Lucifer season 3 episode 11 may not have offered any answers to the state of things in the present, but we really didn’t need any. After all, this episode proved to be so much fun as we had a chance to see more of who these characters once were — including a Charlotte Richards cameo that we didn’t see coming.
