Sophie Skelton sets up Outlander season 4 Roger & Bree storyline

Just in case you are interested in learning more about the Roger & Bree storyline for Outlander season 4 — or at least what it could look like — we’re getting a good sense of that from one of the people heavily involved in the production of it.

Sophie Skelton is gearing up for her biggest season of the show yet as the character Brianna; she had a number of big moments in season 3, but fell off the map after Claire made the decision to go back to Scotland in the past. That will change moving into next season. What Skelton told Syfy Wire on the subject of season 4 in a new interview (mostly promoting her role in the upcoming Day of the Dead: Bloodline) was a summation of her expectations based on the book. There are obviously book spoilers ahead, but no guarantee that all of this ends up making it onto the show:

“They haven’t written all the scripts yet, so I can’t even be in trouble for giving anything away! But from the book, we do know that we see Brianna go back in time, which will be brilliant, to get to work with everyone. We see Brianna go through a lot of harrowing events, and how she deals with them. We see a lot more of Brianna and Roger and their relationship developing. There will be a lot more action for Brianna in season four, which will be great. Some horse riding, maybe some guns, who knows. Maybe some hunting.

“It’s all about the American revolution, so hopefully you guys will like it this year, because the history has come back to America. I think people loved that it was in Scotland, but now it might feel like it’s coming home to you, you get a mix. You get Scotland and America this season.”

This statement validates some of the comments made previously that season 4 will be partially set in Scotland, even if Jamie and Claire are going to be overseas in America in the 18th century. Brianna’s journey is going to be huge over the course of the season as she works to find a way to get to her family. In turn, she could have an opportunity to meet Jamie for the first time and we imagine that this will be a powerful, emotional moment. Jamie’s only connection to his daughter so far has come through photos shared by Claire and the stories she’s told him. He and Claire may not know that it is even possible for them to have an opportunity to see Brianna in the past. Getting more of Roger & Bree along the way is yet another reason to smile.

Outlander season 4 premieres in late 2018; hopefully as we inch closer to that date there will be opportunities to see more of the Brianna story, including through an official trailer released by the network.
