Outlander – January 2018 highlights: Caitriona Balfe’s nomination, season 4 filming, more

Outlander in January

What’s coming up for Outlander in January 2018? This is something that CarterMatt is going to be covering over the course of the coming months — we want to give you a few specific things to look forward to as this wonderful new year progresses!

Let’s start off January with a reminder — this is one of the quieter months when it comes to the Starz drama, and for a number of different reasons. For one, everyone is still recovering from the holiday break, and it will take a little while for things to settle in and become normal again. Presumably production will kick back off at some point this month in Scotland, but there isn’t any publicly-confirmed date at the moment. (We don’t often like to dig too deep with this sort of thing — production should be as undisturbed as possible since we know they’d like to keep potential spoilers under wraps.) In general we’d be surprised to get a whole lot of season 4 news this month, save for potentially a season 5 renewal. Fingers crossed on that!

One thing that you do have to feel confident about is this: January will bring some Golden Globes chatter! Caitriona Balfe is nominated, and we’re hoping that she will at least be able to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles on January 7. It’s a tremendous source of publicity for the show and it’s also a chance to see her (potentially) win her first-ever trophy from the show. It’s a very tight race in the Drama Actress category this year but we do think that she’s got a shot. For those curious, CarterMatt will be breaking down the full field over the next week.

In the past, January would often mean a chance to see Outlander win some awards at the People’s Choice Awards, but that’s not happening this year. The show is going to be airing later this year on a new network in E! — head over here to read a little more information on this subject.

One other thing to note

If you’re an Optimum subscriber, you may notice that a carriage agreement is keeping Starz from being available at the moment. If you want to make your voice heard on the subject, you can do so by heading over to the link here.

These sort of arrangements are often difficult since you have so many different factors playing into them — given that Outlander is still a good nine months or so away from premiering (provided that it starts in September), there should be time to figure this out and for the network to get back on the air. The one major concern comes in the event you’re an Optimum subscriber interested in seeing Counterpart premiere later this month.
