Showtime puts Shameless season 8 episode 8 online early; episode directed by Emmy Rossum

Shameless season 8

Why in the world is Shameless season 8 episode 8 new tonight on Showtime? Well, this is a question that we’ve wondered to ourselves a number of times already given that it doesn’t really make a whole lot of logical sense for the network to broadcast a show on New Year’s Eve. That is especially true when you consider that at the center of Shameless is a family in the Gallaghers that has a storied history of partying hard and doing pretty much anything that they want.

Ultimately, we do nonetheless understand why Shameless is choosing to go in the direction that it is, mostly because of the fact that this is a show that already went a week without a new episode last week. Clearly, the powers that be just don’t want to keep airing repeats to the point that nobody realizes that the show is even still on. They also clearly don’t want to get into a position where the show is off the air for so long that nobody even remembers to watch the show.

As you can probably figure out here, we do feel for Showtime when you think about some of what they are forced to deal with when it comes to Shameless — they at least know that live viewers don’t quite matter, which is why they’ve decided to put tonight’s episode online early. As the tweet below from the show’s official Twitter account makes it clear, you are going to have a chance to check out the episode tonight early if you visit the link presented in there.

Just in case you needed another incentive in order to watch the episode live, here it is: This episode is being directed by none other than series star Emmy Rossum! It’s an achievement for any actor to be able to shift towards directing, and as a result of that we’re rather thrilled for her to be getting his opportunity.
