Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 9 video: Aftermath of Noah’s kidnapping
For the latest sneak peek via SpoilerTV, what we have a chance to witness here can be best described as the immediate aftermath of the horrifying kidnapping that happened at the end of the fall finale. Noah was taken while out shopping with Sheila, and it’s going to be all hands on deck to try and determine precisely what happened here.
There is one caveat to this whole “all hands on deck” strategy — whether or not Olivia Benson really is allowed to be a part of it. After all, Dodds makes it very clear in the sneak peek to Fin that Olivia can have absolutely nothing to do with the case. If she does, it presents an enormous conflict of interest and could be something that ruins their chances of a successful investigation. That’s at least his view of the letter of the law, but we know better than to say that this and this alone is the only way to read this situation. There are many different other angles that you could use when looking at this crisis — with one of them being that Noah is Olivia’s son and of course she is going to do everything within her power in order to ensure that he is safe. This feels almost like a given. We feel like Dodds knows that, which is why he tells Fin that if he cannot talk her out of it, his own future is on the line. Basically, he’s holding Fin’s feet to the fire and even that is not enough to stop Benson.
Who knows? Maybe what Dodds is doing here is playing the long game. He may realize that there is nothing that he can do in order to stop Benson; as a result of that, he may just be telling her covertly to investigate on her own time, away from the department and their resources. This allows her to continue to do what she does, while at the same time also
