Game of Thrones season 8: Kit Harington on emotional farewell

Kit Harington

The end is near in Westeros. Game of Thrones season 8 is filming well into the new year, and as a result of that there are going to be so many emotional farewells for the various cast and crew members at the heart of the series. It’s going to be difficult for us to say goodbye to the series; however, for the cast themselves it will be infinitely more challenging for a number of different reasons. For one, we’re talking about people who have spent an inordinate amount of time the past several years within these characters skin trying to understand them better. Beyond that, there’s also the feeling that these people attach a certain degree of their identity to their characters. They don’t define who they are as people, but there’s an awareness that there is a certain number of people out there who will probably remember them for these roles almost more so than any other that they play in their career.

So how is it for Kit Harington, a man who has been around as Jon Snow for the entirety of the series, to say goodbye? Let’s just say that he is still wrapping his head around the concept. While promoting his new series Gunpowder for HBO the actor had the following to say to Deadline:

“I will say I think I’m understandably more affected by it than I thought I would be.

“You know I wasn’t quite cynical about things, I’m quite straightforward and English. But, really, eight years of your life is a long time to connect with anything. I didn’t know at the beginning if this would be a show that no one would watch or if it would be a show that a lot of people would watch. And I’ve never been in a situation, a show, that’s lasted this long. In my life it’s pretty significant thing that’s happened to me, and coming to the end of it is understandably quite emotional.”

Harington also said that he plans to sit back and relax a bit once the series is over; while we are certain that there are many shows and movies that will inquire about his services, he almost certainly realizes that there is no sense of urgency to dive back out there into other roles. He’s stable financially because of the show and he also has name equity.

Game of Thrones season 8 likely will premiere in 2019; to receive more news about the show and the future right now, you can do so just by visiting the link here.
