CarterMatt Awards 2017 results: Who is the winner for Underrated Show?
Welcome to the CarterMatt Awards results! Throughout the final days of December we’re going to be sharing with you the end results of one of the greatest editions of these awards ever since we first started them six years ago. Hundreds of thousands of you voted, making this edition incredibly competitive and also a total blast to conduct. We hope that some of your favorites end up being among the winners this year!
We’re starting today with the first category in Underrated Show, one meant for the basic purpose of recognizing the unheralded. These are the great shows that, for one reason or another, never get some of the love that they truly deserve. Often they are either overlooked by awards shows, they are viewed almost as too mainstream, or they just get lost in the shuffle. There are hundreds of shows out there across television now! This is a very different landscape than a few decades ago when one person could find a way to watch the vast majority of their desired programming without any trouble. That’s not exactly as easy here in 2017.
Some of the past winners for this category include The Night Shift, Hell on Wheels, Supernatural, and Hannibal. So who ended up emerging as the champion this time around?
Let’s just say that out of all of the categories this year, this one ended up being one of the biggest runaways…
Your 2017 winner for Underrated Show is Major Crimes
The results in this category were almost determined from the very moment that they began. The drama series from creator James Duff won with over 60% of the vote — NCIS was the only other show nominated to even have double digits with 15%. The series has one of the most-loyal followings out there, which makes it all the harder to fathom how TNT decided that they simply didn’t want the show anymore. Major Crimes was a source of great income for them and it also further allowed TNT to maintain their brand for great crime-related drama. Unfortunately, we’re also in the midst of a sea change over at TNT where they are making a series of decisions that we unfortunately don’t entirely understand.
So while there are only a handful of Major Crimes episodes remaining, hopefully this victory serves as a nice celebration of what the show’s been for the past six seasons, or even larger if you want to throw The Closer in there. It’s also a reminder that Major Crimes could have kept this rolling for many more years if given the opportunity.
