Absentia US premiere date (reportedly) will be in February 2018
According to a new report from Deadline, the Stana Katic series is going to start streaming over at Amazon in February 2018. That’s around when we anticipated it given the lack of promotion by the streaming service at the moment. Even though Absentia is an acquisition and there’s already plenty of promotion out there internationally, Amazon wants to get the word out domestically. Just remember that there may be many casual viewers who saw Katic’s last show in Castle who aren’t even aware of this yet! The goal from now until February is finding a way to reach some of them.
One of the other challenges for Amazon moving into the near future has to be simply figuring out the right time in order to launch Absentia. Remember that February is a pretty beastly month when it comes to television programming, especially next year. Not only does network TV have many shows on the air but you’ve also got the Super Bowl, awards shows, and this year the Winter Olympics to worry about. We don’t think that any of these shows is a direct competitor for Absentia and that helps it. The same goes for it being a streaming property that viewers can check out whenever they want as opposed to something that they have to be locked in to watch at a specific time in the week.
Ultimately if there’s one word CarterMatt would use to describe the arrival of Absentia to US television it’s this: Excited. It’s hard to feel anything but when you consider the hype that surrounds the show and also the long wait for it to come out. We’ve been covering Absentia for almost a year now and we’ve almost (finally) made it to the light at the end of the tunnel. For those of you watching the show internationally we’re certainly jealous! Though, to be fair, we know you’ve waited a long time in the past for shows that we’ve had a chance to check out right away.
