NCIS: New Orleans syndication heads to TNT

NCIS: New Orleans syndication

For those wondering about an NCIS: New Orleans syndication deal, we finally have an idea as to where the show is heading.

Per a report coming in from Deadline, TNT has officially licensed the first three seasons of the Scott Bakula CBS series — season four, and future seasons of the show, will be added after their runs are completed on the broadcast network. The website reports that the episodes sold in the mid-to-high six-figures per episode, which helps to further explain why the network remains so invested in the show. Think about things this way — even if NCIS: New Orleans sold for $500,000 an episode, there are still more than 70 episodes out there from the first three seasons and this would mean more than $35 million from this deal alone. The end price TNT paid is probably even higher than that.

The crazy thing is that compared to some syndication deals in the past this is relatively affordable — the syndication market isn’t quite what it once was back when network shows were generating higher ratings and there are so many other venues to watch television. Now, NCIS: New Orleans diehards can also watch the show on CBS All Access or save episodes on their DVRs. This is still useful as a way to get TNT ratings; to go along with that, this could eventually bring more viewers over to CBS. Syndication is one of the major reasons why NCIS became the #1 show on TV; it and the NCIS: Los Angeles spin-off both signed a deal with USA that was rich and also incredibly beneficial.

In a statement, Scott Koondel, Chief Corporate Content Licensing Officer for CBS Corporation, had the following to say:

“NCIS: New Orleans is the third series in a franchise that has had tremendous success in cable syndication, and it continues to be a huge hit for CBS … We have no doubt it will bring its vast and loyal audience to TNT – one of cable’s finest networks.”

This deal is not exclusive, which means that NCIS: New Orleans can still syndicate on other broadcast networks as well as streaming providers. Basically, there’s more money to be made and there are plans for NCIS: New Orleans to be on the air for many more years.
