The Voice finale: Chloe Kohanski original song ‘Wish I Didn’t Love You,’ music video
You can hear the song leading up to the show tonight on iTunes. This is a song that Chloe is hoping will keep her at the top of the leaderboard — while NBC doesn’t reveal specific voting results during the season, all signs point towards her being the favorite to win the title going into tonight. It’s easy to figure out why — she’s a true original stylistically, she’s got a raspy voice that is different than almost any female singer ever on the show, and her mentor is Blake Shelton. If you’re on Team Blake you almost always get another vote that pushes you in the right direction.
“Wish I Didn’t Love You,” at least through the iTunes sample, is an emotional rock ballad with touches of Adele meets Pat Benetar. There’s a narrative playing underneath the song and we wouldn’t be surprised if this builds to a really powerful chorus at the end. This is a song that should play well to some of her sensibilities as an artist and what her fans expect of her at this point.
“Wish I Didn’t Love You” was co-written by Audra Mae Butts, Mike Daly and Jonas Jeberg. Daly has worked with the likes of Jason Mraz, Lana Del Rey, and Young the Giant. Meanwhile, Jeberg has worked with everyone from Fifth Harmony to Kylie Minogue.
Beyond just getting to perform her original song, Chloe Kohanski tonight will also be doing two other performances — just as you would expect for The Voice finale at this point. She will take on the Kim Carnes classic “Bette Davis Eyes” (an inspired choice for the finale, given that it’s a song that should feel fresh for many people) alongside “You Got It,” her duet with coach Blake Shelton.
