The Voice finale: Addison Agen original song Tennessee Rain, music video
You can hear the song leading up to the show tonight on iTunes, where the download is also made available early in advance. “Tennessee Rain” is a soft, emotional ballad, one that fits very well into the singer/songwriter mold you’ve come to expect from Addison after watching her on the show this season. It’s poignant, personal, and it genuinely feels like it could be her song. That’s something you absolutely hope for with some of these The Voice original songs — it’s also something that we wish there was more of over the course of the season. Why only give us these in the finale?
Angelo Petraglia and Larry Gottlieb are the songwriters on “Tennessee Rain,” and they’re a Grammy-nominated duo who have contributed songs for a number of different artists. (Trisha Yearwood is among the most famous.) Getting in the door with quality songwriters is one of the initial keys to success following being on a singing show. You need to show every dimension of you as an artist as opposed to just being a great singer who can come out on stage and hit some big notes.
Do we think that this will get Addison Agen some extra votes? Share, but her major challenge is more figuring out a way in which to close the gap across all of her performances with runaway favorite Chloe Kohanski. We’ve seen underdogs win before on The Voice and in looking across the field right now, she probably has the best shot of actually making it happen. She just needs two other great performances during the show tonight and we can go ahead and tell you what they are — she’ll be taking on “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw alongside the Once classic of “Falling Slowly.” It’s a good mixture of songs and “Falling Slowly” seems like it’s the one slam-dunk that she has to court votes in this final round.
