Vikings season 5 episode 5 preview: Ivar versus Heahmund
What makes the dynamic between these two characters so interesting is that philosophically, they are driven by such different things. They have very different outlooks on the world, on religion, and on life. They also have a very different way of inspiring loyalty. We’re still learning the true mettle of Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ character, given that he has only been a part of the Vikings world for a limited period of time. He’s got a style and a charisma that is different from most of the vikings we have a tendency to see.

In Vikings season 5 episode 5 promo below gives you a small sense of what Bjorn’s welcome is going to be — and some of the danger that awaits him there at the same time. Both this story and Ivar’s are reflective of what is one of the larger themes of this season to date: Expansion. We’re getting a sense of the larger, broader world and some of the characters who inhabit it. As the season progresses we should have even more opportunities to get to know some of these characters and worlds as they relate to the Vikings. Bjorn’s storyline especially is fascinating since it’s been on a slow burn for such a long time.
Just in terms of color palette alone, isn’t it interesting to get so much sand on this show? The only difficulty that Vikings has with what they are doing is eventually finding a way for so many of these stories to intersect once more.
