Peter Thomas returns to The Real Housewives of Atlanta (video)

Sunday night’s new episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta could be more dramatic than most. It’s hard to describe it in any other way with Peter Thomas returning. Anytime you’ve got someone with the sort of history he has with Cynthia Bailey coming back there’s going to be emotion — he represents a huge part of her past (and is still in the hearts of many fans of the show), but also is deeply involved in her present. It’s not as though these two severed ties and have no interest in ever being around each other again. It’s just made complicated by her dating and the two having conversations on that subject. You get a small sense of that in the promo below. While things are not devastating and there is no clear and present rage, there’s still awkwardness that bleeds through the cameras. That’s going to be there for a while.

To make matters worse for Cynthia, later on in the episode Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker could start peppering her date (named Will) with some questions about his past — including an appearance on Steve Harvey that has them raising eyebrows. Should this be compelling for us as a viewer? Absolutely, but is Cynthia ready for what will be an awkward hour of TV? The synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below offers a little more insight:

“Cynthia and Peter reunite to discuss business moves in Atlanta, while her date on a boat with Will gets rocked when Kandi and Todd go fishing for the truth. Meanwhile, Porsha embarks on her first blind date and Kandi confronts the challenges of raising a teenager as she tries to enjoy some much needed family time. Shereé finally tackles a personal goal but an unexpected phone call leaves her wondering if her new love is strong enough to stand the test of time.”

Beyond all of the drama the most entertaining part of the promo comes via Porsha Williams. Does anyone out there remember the old MTV series Next, where men and women go on five blind dates an episode? The whole idea is when you’re unhappy with the person you are dating you shout “next!” and someone else comes in. That sort-of-seems to be what Porsha tries to do here with her turning around and walking away the moment she arrives for her date.

In getting back to the promo, it ends with Sheree getting a phone call, presumably from her new boyfriend in prison. That gives you a sense as to where her storyline on the show could be going.
