Major Crimes 100th episode hints at emotional road for Sharon Raydor
“While working two seemingly connected murders, the division suddenly uncovers a series of sexual assaults against servers from Tackles. As a new theory about the killer gathers steam, however, an unexpected twist throws Major Crimes off course and Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) off- balance.”
If fans will recall EP James Duff did an interview with Entertainment Weekly before the start of the sixth season to preview the final season as a whole. During the interview Duff discussed the historic 100th episode directly telling fans that he wrote a “big, emotional [story] for her [Sharon]”, in addition to adding a “couple of surprises.” Needless to say, this season has definitely been a roller coaster of emotions, not only for Sharon, but for the fans as well. At the end of “Conspiracy Theory Part 2”, Sharon and Andy were going to see another specialist and after a sweet moment between the married couple, the screen faded to black to show the promo for the next episode depicting that Sharon’s health was getting worse.
Now, we know how the promo looks. It makes us believe something bad is going to happen to Sharon, that might even result in her possible death. However, we are here to tell you that we don’t believe that will happen. For one, she’s the central character whom the show revolves around. Killing her before the last episode arc would make absolutely no sense and would crush fans. Two, the final episode arc titled “By Any Means” will be the showdown with Philip Stroh and we don’t know about you, but Stroh’s fight is with both Rusty and Sharon and it wouldn’t be a satisfying ending if Sharon wasn’t a part of it. Three, we know fans have been worried for her because she wasn’t mentioned in the summaries for the final episode arc and it stated that there would be a surprise death in the law enforcement community. So seeing next week’s promo only fuels this fire and we know that. However, Duff doesn’t seem like the type of writer to kill off his main character after stating in his EW interview that he wants to leave fans “feeling satisfied with a fitting conclusion”. No one will be satisfied with Sharon dying.
This health crisis Sharon is facing could be Duff’s way of transitioning her into a more administrative position, possibly promoting her once again. As far as next week’s episode goes, let’s wait to watch the squad get closer to solving the Tackles sexual assault cover ups and see what Duff has up his sleeve before we think the worst.
