Arrow season 6 confirms Colton Haynes’ return; story tied to Thea

Colton Haynes' return

Colton Haynes’ return for Arrow season 6 is something that has been set up for quite some time now; today, we’re lucky to have confirmation of that very thing!

Today, The CW officially confirmed that Haynes is going to be stopping by for the upcoming 15th episode of the show and will be appearing beyond that for some sort of arc. This is the first time Haynes has appeared as Roy Harper since season 4, and all indications suggest that he will spend some time with Willa Holland and his former flame Thea Queen.

In a statement, executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle had the following to say on this subject:

“We’re thrilled to announce that Colton Haynes will be reprising his role as Roy Harper. Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team … His short visit turns into something surprising when he reunites with Thea and sparks a change in both of their lives that will have long-lasting consequences….”

Whatever this “change” is, we do hope that it’s something that gives the Thea character more substantial material. She’s barely suited up as Speedy since the fourth season and due to her status as a fractional series regular only shows up here and there. She’s been almost absent for the entirety of season 6 to date — that’s set to change from here on out, but finding a way for her within this crowded show is difficult. At present, she is certainly the character we are worried the most about given that she’s been used so sparingly as of late.

Since departing Arrow as Roy Haynes has had an opportunity to do a number of different roles, including on American Horror Story: Cult, Scream Queens, and a return to his old stomping grounds of Teen Wolf. That show plus Arrow are the two that really helped him become a household name for many people.

Arrow returns from its midseason hiatus in January; we anticipate that there will be more news related to Colton’s return announced at some point next month.
