Major Crimes Conspiracy Theory Part 2 review: Should fans be worried for Sharon Raydor?
During this hour, the squad investigated the murder of Vanessa(aka Dallas from Burbank), one of the waitresses from Tackles restaurants who was fired because she was over 30 and refused to settle in the lawsuit. She was murdered in her own home – asphyxiated with a plastic bag. As the squad investigated, they discovered the reason why she wouldn’t settle with Tackles. The young woman was sexual assaulted by someone she trusted and had been seeing a psychologist to help recover from the experience. However, she never revealed his name or any physical descriptions about him. Her doctor did reveal the details of the sexual assault, which led Sharon to believe the man who raped Vanessa had done it before.
The advancements in this case were great to see and in fact, we were more intrigued by this case than the last. Now, that’s not too say the last case wasn’t interesting, but this episode arc is, so far, easier to follow. They have suspects, they just need to dig deeper into all of them and during this hour the team took a closer look at Craig Curtis, the owner of the Tackles chain. Fans found out he was previously accused of gang rape with friends of his from his youth (reminding us a bit of Dexter season 5) and that he has a temper. Sharon and the team also found out that Bonnie Pearl, (the lawyer murdered in Part 1) had been traveling around the country to other Tackles restaurants and found more sexual assault victims.
Again, tonight’s episode was great because it revealed new details little by little to keep us guessing. To us, this is what keeps fans coming back. With all of this now known, we have a ton of questions and we know that in order to get them answered we need to come back next week for the next new installment.
Not only were there advancements in the case, but the episode featured growth in Rusty and Sharon’s personal lives. We found out tonight that Rusty has graduated college and has received his diploma. We also saw him and Gus meet again. This scene between them outside of the police department was one of the most heartbreaking moments. It’s very clear the two still have strong feelings for one another, but for Rusty the pain of knowing that Gus cheated on him twice is enough to make Rusty unable to forgive him. However, we have a feeling that we will be seeing Gus again trying to convince Rusty to give them another chance. Whether or not Rusty will, is up in the air. We know he doesn’t like being lied to and has a hard time trusting people, so knowing that Gus did both will make for a very interesting internal battle for Rusty.
For Sharon, the episode featured her almost passing out at a crime scene. Later on, we see her taking medication and being handed water frequently. By the hour’s end, fans see her and Andy on their way to see a different specialist, in hopes of getting more answers about her condition. What was great about his scene was fans not only saw the Commander and her Lieutenant, but a reassuring husband and a worried wife. We saw him tell her that no matter what his feelings for her won’t change and that he will always be there. On Sharon’s side, we saw a scared version of the normally strong and fearless woman that solves crimes and isn’t afraid of anything. It was different, but revealed Sharon isn’t so different from us. She has fears, gets stressed, and is worried like most of us would be and Mary McDonnell shows this emotions with a talent that seems effortless.
Next week’s episode is sure to bring the emotions. Major Crimes returns next week at 9pm EST with Conspiracy Theory Parts 3 and 4, including the highly emotional and anticipated 100th episode. For more news related to Major Crimes, be sure to visit this link.
