Outlander video: Caitriona Balfe’s This Morning interview & many fun moments

Caitriona Balfe's This Morning interview

Some Outlander interviews are clearly better than others — and CarterMatt likes to think that Caitriona Balfe’s on This Morning was wonderful!

If you look across the TV landscape for interviews featuring Balfe and Sam Heughan, there are a number of them that ultimately feel the same — you hear many of the same questions, the same sort of talking points by the hosts, and you don’t really get a sense that all of the hosts have seen more than five minutes of the show.

Luckily, that was not the case on This Morning, as it is more than clear that show co-host Holly Willoughby is an enormous fan of the series. She had specific questions about the show’s mythology, including why Claire can travel through time without murdering anyone when Geillis has to. Balfe’s response was pretty perfect: “Did Geillis have to, or did she just want to? There are certain rules about the time travel.” Balfe also touched on why Jamie cannot travel to the present with her, stating that “there are certain people [who can travel] — it can be passed down through generations.” This led to Willoughby bringing up a certain moment with Brianna … which of course has us tremendously excited as to what her season 4 arc could be. (Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin will be back!)

One of the things that we actually find the funniest about this entire interview is the coverage of it from some places on the internet — the British press is salivating over this interview, saying that Willoughby somehow dropped some enormous spoilers even though she warned everyone in advance that she was going to talk about it. Also, Outlander is a series based on a book series, so it’s not like there is zero precedent to what is happening in the story.

At the end of the interview…

You get a little bit of discussion regarding Outlander season 4 filming in Scotland. It’s harder for Balfe and Sam Heughan to do US television interviews at the moment thanks to the show’s filming schedule, but we do think that you’re going to get a chance to see her in Los Angeles on January 7 for the Golden Globes. After all, she’s nominated! We suppose it’s not 100% confirmed that she will be able to attend, but we hope that production planned ahead for that given that it is such incredible publicity for the series for her to be there.

Given that we’re entering a Droughtlander, we’ll take every little Outlander-related TV appearance that we can. We’re grateful for this one, and after this we really hope that Holly and This Morning get a chance to do a Sam interview at some point in the future, as well.
