Legends of Tomorrow season 3: When should we meet Mallus?

Legends of Tomorrow new

We’re around the halfway point of Legends of Tomorrow season 3, and of course we’re not questioning whether or not the show to date is a blast to watch. Clearly, it is. Pound for pound Legends of Tomorrow may be the best superhero show that The CW has, especially in terms of actually feeling like something based on a comic book. It’s fun, it’s celebratory, and it’s not afraid to be silly or comical here and there.

Yet, the same goes for it being sad — remember that in the past two episodes alone we’ve seen the death of Martin Stein as well as the departure of Jefferson Jackson.

One of the big question marks that Legends of Tomorrow does still have at the moment revolves around the future of one man in Mallus. This character serves as the Big Bad for the season, and yet at the moment he’s just some inter-dimensional monster whose name is only whispered in secret. Sara Lance got a glimpse of something at least close to him in the midseason finale, but nobody has yet to see him otherwise.

Should that change in the near future? We do feel like it’s getting close to the right time. You don’t want a show to go too long before you get to know the Big Bad, just because the last thing that you should want is to be narratively similar in some way to The Flash season 3, which waited far too long to unveil the identity of Savitar. The earlier you understand the character, the more that you can start to root against them. While Legends of Tomorrow does have what is arguably the most entertaining version of Damien Darhk ever right now, we think it only aids the character to understand more some of the forces who brought him back. Mallus is dangerous, powerful, and capable of some crazy stuff. This is absolutely some content that we want to see explored on the show more in the weeks to come. It will also make the timing of Jax’s departure all the sadder because it’s one less person to help the Legends in their final battle. He may not have powers without Martin but he’s definitely still important. As of right now the team does have John Constantine on their side, but who knows how long that will last?
