Golden Globes 2018 snubs: Outlander, Sam Heughan, Mariska Hargitay, more

We knew that there would be some pretty substantial Golden Globes 2018 snubs — there are some big ones ever year, and the fact that there are only five nominees per category is all the additional confirmation that you need that it’s going to happen. We’re at a time when there is more TV on the air than ever before and really don’t quite understand why the Hollywood Foreign Press doesn’t up the count.

Anyhow, the main focus of this article is to chronicle some of the people who we feel were unfairly snubbed of some love after working so hard over the course of the past year — there will obviously be some we miss, so think of them as some of the biggest snubs on the list of people snubbed.

The Leftovers – For the final season, the Globes — just like the Critics’ Choice Awards before them — are pretending like Damon Lindelof’s HBO series does not exist.

Veep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Do critics and awards voters suddenly not remember that this show is insanely funny? After years of dominance this is the second straight awards show to completely forget about both the show and its most notable star.

Mariska Hargitay for Law & Order: SVU – Her performance in “Something Happened” practically transcended television, but we unfortunately don’t think that Golden Globes voters were paying attention — the episode may have been too recent for some of them.

Outlander and star Sam Heughan – We’re thrilled for Caitriona Balfe to get another nod this year, but it remains a shame that her co-star and the series itself isn’t joining her. This is the second straight year that Outlander was snubbed as a drama series and the third straight year Heughan didn’t get some of the love he so deserves. What gives? We know that both categories are highly competitive but it’s a clear oversight.

Kit Harington for Game of Thrones – Sam wasn’t the only snub in the Drama Actor category.

Bill Pullman for The Sinner – At least Jessica Biel and the Limited Series itself got some love. That makes us feel slightly better.

Mindhunter and Jonathan Groff – Many critics had either the show or its star breaking into one of the main categories this year — that didn’t happen.

Mandy Moore for This Is Us – While the series and Sterling K. Brown were given some love, she unfortunately didn’t make it into the final nominations.

The Good Place Despite having Kristen Bell there to help present the nominations, the NBC show didn’t get anywhere near the love it deserved.
