Vikings season 5 episode 4 preview: Bjorn’s new world; Lagertha’s negotiation

Vikings season 5 episode 4

Vikings season 5 episode 4 will be coming your way on History this Wednesday night, and there’s a lot to be excited about.

For one, Lagertha’s back! Katheryn Winnick was missing in action for all of this past episode, but here she will return as she is presented with a rather interesting option: To go against Ivar. As if Ivar being at odds with his brothers was not bad enough, having conflict with Lagertha is probably not something that he wants. She’s got her own forces and we’ve already seen tension overflowing around York.

CarterMatt has the Vikings season 5 episode 4 synopsis below, and it gives you a pretty good sense of some of the drama you’re going to see:

Guided by Bishop Heahmund’s visions, the Saxons devise a battle plan. Meanwhile, Ivar the Boneless strategizes on his own as the Vikings face increasing pressure; and Bjorn Ironside finds himself in a new territory and must convince the local commander he is a trader and not a raider.

The extended preview below gives you a good sense as to what’s coming story-wise from a number of different directions, including Heahmund finding himself quite the power broker. His character’s presence is important for those looking to see an explanation as to how religion can be used as influence. His visions could be the basis for several battles to come.

Beyond this, we’re excited to see what Bjorn’s story will unfold as he finds himself in a place that is very different from the rest of the main characters — it’s also a very different sort of place from what we’ve seen on Vikings before. The color palette will add to the overall landscape … and hopefully also give him a new sense of drive and purpose. From the jump, it’s going to be prettyclear that he will need to establish himself as a possible ally — otherwise, he’s not going to live long enough to survive long in this new land.
