Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date coming in 2019, says Sophie Turner

Game of Thrones

While we don’t have official confirmation on a Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date just yet, we have something close via Sophie Turner.

Speaking in a new interview with Variety promoting both the show and her upcoming X-Men Dark Phoenix film, the actress made it clear that the final season is set to come on the air in 2019. That falls in line with most of what analysts and experts have projected for the end of the show. For one, filming started later than in past seasons in order to perfectly capture the wintry vibe necessary to tell this story. Beyond that, there are a TON of special effects that need to be added in and when you think for a moment about the number of cast members are filming together now, it’s a little harder to have simultaneous filming crews running — that is something that has aided the show in the past.

In addition to sharing the potential Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date, Turner also passed along the following message as to if there is a sense of finality behind the scenes at the show:

“There definitely is. When we all had the read-through for the final season, it was very, very emotional. For the first time in “Thrones” history, we had everyone there. All of the Americans wanted to come over. Every single cast member was pretty much there. We’re all kind of feeling the end of it coming. We’re all staying in town a little longer, going out for more meals, trying to get together more. We’re all trying not to take it for granted any more.”

We imagine that things for the entire Game of Thrones cast are going to get incredibly emotional between now and when the show does wrap up filming in the spring. You have to remember that this is a show that has lasted for close to a decade; the lives of all of the cast and crew are changed forever by it. You have people like Turner, Maisie Williams, and Emilia Clarke getting some big-budget movie gigs.
