Melissa McCarthy, Chris Pratt to guest-host Jimmy Kimmel Live after son Billy’s heart surgery

While Jimmy Kimmel Live! is going to be airing new episodes throughout the week, they won’t feature Jimmy himself. The late-night host’s son Billy underwent a successful heart surgery today, and as a result of that he is at home with his family.

Luckily, the ABC series is going to (once more) snag a few great guest-hosts; throughout the week, you’re going to see a number of familiar faces across the board. Take a look at the schedule of guest hosts below.

Chris Pratt – The Jurassic World star is anchoring the show tonight, which will feature appearances from I, Tonya star Margot Robbie to go along with country-music star Chris Stapleton.

Tracee Ellis Ross – The black-ish star is going to take over on Tuesday, which features Mary J. Blige to go along with Amanda de Cadenet.

Neil Patrick Harris – If you miss Harris on network TV as much as we do, there’s a reasonably good chance that you are going to enjoy seeing him here! Vanessa Kirby of The Crown will be appearing alongside animal expert Jules Sylvester — NPH with animals should be an incredibly good time for everyone.

Melissa McCarthy – Finally, the comedic genius will be appearing Thursday and speaking with both Octavia Spencer and Dave Franco.

For some of these guest-hosts, we imagine the fun here is getting to take on the job of late-night host for a evening and doing something that is completely out of their comfort zone. It’s a chance for ABC to also produce some funny content using some unexpected stars at the forefront of it. We also do applaud the network for allowing Kimmel to have some time off to be with his family — it’s something that not every employer would allow, and that’s something he is very well aware of. Ever since his son’s birth Kimmel has become an outspoken leader in the movement to get better health care for all Americans, and not just those who happen to make the same amount of money that he does. In the wake of the GOP tax plan and some other changes that are coming from the top, we do think that his voice is needed now more than ever before.
