Chicago PD season 5: Mekhi Phifer, Jesse Garcia appearing in big Atwater episode
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly Mekhi Phifer and Jesse Garcia are appearing on the upcoming January 17 episode entitled “Captive,” and the attached logline makes it clear precisely what’s going down: “When Atwater goes missing, Intelligence rallies to figure out what happened and rescue him before it’s too late.”
Here’s what we know about these two roles.
Phifer – The former 8 Mile actor is playing the part of Joe Baker, a reformed ex-con who was a part of a gang earlier in his life. He’s doing what he can to keep his life on track, and is described as “stoic, revengeful, and tough.” He also is harboring a lot of pain as “a grieving father still mourning the loss of his son.”
Garcia – Best known for his work in From Dusk ‘Til Dawn: The Series, the actor will play a dangerous cocaine dealer named Reimundo Morales. His description goes as follows: “Seemingly untouchable and chillingly confident in his criminal endeavors, [Morales has] a penchant for causing his enemies pain [and is] no stranger to seeking revenge.” Basically, he’s a dangerous dude and it’s certainly possible that he is the one putting Atwater in danger.
It’s pretty easy to tell that Chicago PD season 5 is the biggest season for LaRoyce Hawkins to date. Earlier this season we saw a painful storyline for Atwater as he eventually decided to move his younger siblings out of the city. He’s come to grips with the fact that this is a very dangerous place and in order to do the job that he needs to as a cop there are going to be some pretty serious consequences. Unfortunately, one of these said consequences is that he ends up putting some people close to him in danger. The work LaRoyce has done this year is why we nominated him for our 2017 CarterMatt Awards for Underrated Actor (you can vote for him at the link here).
This January 17 episode is going to be the third one for Chicago PD in the new year — there are also some other episodes that are going to be coming on January 3 and January 10.
