Zachary Levi talks Chuck revival hopes, interest in doing Netflix movies

Chuck revival

Given that we’re getting Psych: The Movie later this week, isn’t it time to talk about a Chuck revival? It only makes sense given that Chuck star Zachary Levi is appearing in the Psych movie as a villain, and the idea that he has for bringing back Chuck is fairly similar.

During a panel discussion this weekend at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose (see the video below), the actor made some of his thoughts clear on what he’d like to see happen if he can bring the show back:

“There are plans — unfortunately, they’re only my plans … I have some ideas for a plot that (cheekily) I think is genius, but what I would love to do is essentially Chuck movies. Not in the movie theaters, but I would love to go to Netflix and every two years, do an hour-and-a-half / two-hour Chuck movie. I think that Chuck is a perfect premise to do those one-off installments.”

Given the busy schedule of both himself and everyone else from that cast, Levi added that this is the best way logistically to make something happen:

“Anybody who’s still waiting for a season 6 you can stop waiting … It’s not going to happen. I don’t think the show needs a full season 6 and I can’t get everybody back together for that amount of time. What I can probably do is get people back together for maybe six weeks, and if that goes well maybe we’ll make another one.”

Is this possible?

Hey, if Zachary Levi is saying it, doesn’t it have to be? We do think he’s got some clout, but there are obviously a lot of different hoops to jump through, including Netflix getting the rights to the show and being able to produce new content. They’d have to be interested for one, and so would the studio. (As of right now we’d just be happy to even get Chuck episodes back on Netflix in the first place.) Given the enormous success that Netflix has had with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, that probably does give some credence to this idea working. Chuck has a similarly devoted fan base and we think that the show adopting a similar model to what Psych is trying to do could work. It’d just be a nice dose of fun every year or two to remind us all of why we loved this show so much in the first place.

Rest assured that if there’s anything CarterMatt can do to make a Chuck revival happen, we will. We’ve long contended that this is one of our favorite TV series of all time.
